Stories from the Ground: Unearthing Hidden Histories

XR Stories is supporting Sheffield-based creative studio, Peter & Paul, to develop a new Augmented Reality (AR) experience to inspire people to think more deeply about food and the global chain.

‘Stories from the Ground: Unearthing Hidden Histories’ will explore unethical food practices and economic inequalities as the digital companion to a live, immersive dining experience, created by partners Trigger, and commissioned by National Trust and British Council Sub-Saharan Africa. 

The AR experience will build on the live performance, and will enable audiences to explore hidden histories of food. Artistic collaborations with indigenous people will bring the stories to life in the space around you through illustration, animation and narration.

The project will use eXtended Reality technology to remove physical boundaries and tell different stories from different countries, encouraging people to think about who grows, owns and is impacted by our global food practices.

Stories from the Ground: Unearthing Hidden Histories’ is one of four projects awarded research and development funding from the XR Demonstrators programme. The programme aims to explore how XR technologies can be used to reach new audiences and support growth across Museums, Galleries, Libraries, Music, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts.
