For researchers

XR Stories helps researchers at the University of York to accelerate their research outputs and connect to industry and other audiences.

To date, we’ve helped to deliver more than 70 research projects and embedded multiple masters and PhD projects with industry partners.

We bring new perspectives to the development and use of XR and creative technologies within aligned research projects and provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for researchers to experiment and explore.

Residencies

The XR Stories residency programme provides opportunities for researchers to work on projects using the latest XR technologies in a space outside of their usual environment, to incubate new ideas and carry out productive research and development. Successful applicants will become residents in the XR Stories immersive technology lab, using our facilities and state-of-the-art technology as their own workspace. With support from the XR Stories team, residents will have up to five days of focused R&D time to make demonstrable progress in their project.

If you are interested in applying for a residency with XR Stories, please read our guidance document before submitting your application. The guidance includes essential information about the programme including eligibility criteria, applicant commitments and details of the residency windows.

XR Network+

XR Network+ Virtual Production in the Digital Economy provides funding and support to researchers working in virtual production and future convergent media technologies. Led by The University of York, XR Network+ is conducted in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh, University of the Arts London, Cardiff University and Ulster University. Through our networks of partners, we will establish the UK’s digital economy research agenda for content creation and consumption in virtual production and related technologies,  supporting growth, and facilitating collaboration between academia and industry on a national stage.
