XR Stories funded company wins Broadcast Tech Innovation Award

Sheffield-based digital experience agency, Megaverse, has received an award for Technical Innovation (Entertainment or Sport) at the Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards 2022. Megaverse received funding and support from XR Stories as part of our 2021 Open XR funding opportunity.

Megaverse won the award category with SURGE, a multidimensional performance funded through Digital Catapult and the Community Renewal Fund. The technology powering SURGE was developed through their immersive storytelling experience project, Flood, which was supported by our Open XR call.

The Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards took place at The Brewery, London, on Tuesday 29 November. Presented by actor and comedian Kerry Godliman, the fourth year of the awards celebrated the role of technology in creating and broadcasting the most outstanding productions of 2022. The 19 award categories focused on the teamwork behind the projects, highlighting their outstanding creative and technical aspects.

Megaverse is an internationally acclaimed creative studio that harnesses digital technologies to craft unique user-centric interactive experiences. Development of Flood has been in partnership with Paris-based extended-reality (XR) production studio, Stare at the Wall, with R&D support from the University of York.
