XR Stories supports CoSTAR Live Lab
XR Stories is providing expertise and facilities to support the University of York team leading the new CoSTAR Live Lab.
Based at Production Park in Wakefield, the CoSTAR Live Lab will develop technologies for future live performance experiences using virtual production, from small-scale pilots to arena-sized productions.
Part of the wider CoSTAR research and development (R&D) network, the Live Lab will provide researchers, companies and institutions with the infrastructure they need to conduct world-class research and development (R&D) in screen and performance technology.
The XR Stories team has worked closely with colleagues in the University’s AudioLab, part of the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology, to support the implementation of programme management processes for the Live Lab.
XR Stories has also provided guidance on stakeholder engagement and collaboration, sharing best practice from five years as the creative cluster for the Yorkshire and Humber screen industries, and from the last year as a University of York project supporting individuals and businesses working in creative and digital technologies.
In 2025, a production by Viridian FX will feature at the CoSTAR Live Lab launch event. XR Stories is working with the Viridian FX team to support development and testing of the experience from their immersive technology R&D lab in the centre of York.
Visit the CoSTAR website to learn more about the network and read the XR Stories 2024 roundup to find out about the project’s wider support activities.
