XR Stories’ research fellow joins Screen Yorkshire’s mentoring scheme

XR Stories’ research fellow, Nick Bax, is mentoring an aspiring filmmaker for Screen Yorkshire’s Beyond Brontës: The Mayor’s Screen Diversity Programme.

The scheme aims to help young people from diverse backgrounds establish careers within the creative industries. It includes one-to-one support and workshops, with the possibility of internships and work experience placements in the future.

As a mentor, Nick will be helping to address underrepresentation in the screen industries by breaking down perceived and actual barriers. He will be working closely with Screen Yorkshire to offer a bespoke programme of support to the mentee.

Nick says, “From my own experience I know that the path into employment within the creative industries is not an obvious one for many people. I am happy to help people in Yorkshire continue their creative journey into industry so they can fulfil their potential, regardless of their background.”

Nick will be drawing from his industry experience as creative director of Sheffield-based creative agency, Human, and his research for XR Stories on mixed reality storytelling. He recently directed The Neon Pack, an immersive 360 experience which was commissioned by Hope Works and match-funded by XR Stories.

He also recently delivered a talk at York Festival of Ideas on ABBA’s new immersive concert experience – watch Spooker Trouper: ‘ABBA Voyage’ and the rise of digital ghosts.
