XR Stories offers new facilities hire service

XR Stories has expanded its services to include an option for businesses and individuals to hire the project’s state-of-the-art immersive lab in The Guildhall, York.

The lab facility features a flexible virtual production test stage and a suite of cutting edge equipment and technology spanning performance capture, spatial audio, virtual reality, and game development.

The hire provision sits alongside XR Stories’ support programmes including creative business residencies and creative technology skills training, that provide opportunities to access the lab to undertake research and development activities, or to develop skills in creative and digital technologies.

John Rose-Adams, Associate Director of Research, Development and Innovation, XR Stories, comments: “Our facilities hire service responds to the needs of businesses who require access to high spec equipment and dedicated space to deliver their commercial projects.

“It also responds to the growing number of people looking to leverage XR Stories expertise and infrastructure as part of grant applications to funding bodies, such as Innovate UK and Arts Council England, the latter having recently recognised digital arts as a distinct artform.”

Kit Monkman, founder of Viridian FX and Motion Post, York’s leading VFX and post-production houses, comments: “Development work on new and innovative productions is expensive and specialist facilities are increasingly scarce and often prohibitively expensive. This new service will mean we don’t need to travel away from York to develop our projects and that’s a massive win both in terms of time, cost and quality of output.”

Judi Alston, co-founder of Yorkshire-based One to One Development Trust and Dreaming Methods, comments: “We’re going to be working in the XR Stories’ lab as part of our next project. The combined benefits of access to cutting edge facilities that are on our doorstep, and the XR Stories team’s creative and technical know-how, will have a positive impact on the size and shape of our projects and productions.”
