R&D Funding Roundup – June 2024
A roundup of recent research and development funding opportunities for researchers, companies and creatives.
Film & TV Charity Reel Impact Grants: Funding of up to £25,000 available for Black or Global Majority owned or led organisations or production companies who work behind the scenes in film, TV or cinema (closes 30 June).
Digital Catapult Black Founders Programme: A 13-week accelerator targeted at pre-seed or seed stage, Black founded companies creating innovative products and services in the creative industries (closes 7 July).
Women in Innovation Award 2024/25: Grants and bespoke business support of up to £75,000 for women within UK-registered micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to develop their exciting and innovative ideas (closes 10 July).
Innovate UK Smart Grants April 2024: Grants for UK registered organisations to undertake game-changing and commercially viable R&D innovations that can significantly impact the UK economy (closes 24 July).
Global XR Hack (London event 14-16 August): A three-day hackathon for individuals and companies to discover and explore potential XR applications alongside seasoned XR developers and designers. Innovate Immerse UK Tech network will run the UK hack in London from 14-16 August with a local prize pool of £10,000 available (no closing date specified).
Technologies to enable independence for people living with dementia: Funding for applicants from UK research organisations to develop a multidisciplinary NetworkPlus focused on the use and development of novel tools and technologies to enable people to live independently with dementia (closes 10 September).
UK Games Fund (Content Grants) : Funding to support the UK’s early-stage games development and digital interactive business and creative ecosystem (rolling fund – no deadline).
Creative Growth Finance Fund: Scale-up loans for UK businesses in the Creative Industries (open).
Creative UK: Creative Enterprise Business Builder: Grants to support companies who work in moving image for storytelling, spanning film television, games, animation and immersive industries (rolling fund – no deadline).

Innovate UK Knowledge Partnership Transfers 2024/2025 Round Three: UK registered academic institutions, research and technology organisations (RTOs) or Catapults can apply for a share of up to £9 million to fund innovation projects with businesses or not for profits (opens 1 July).
Immersive Arts: The first consortium to be funded by XRtists, Immersive Arts is a £6 million, three year national programme that will support 200 artists from across the UK to explore the possibilities of immersive technology with a new research & development programme – focusing on skills and the creative potential of the art form.
