The Climate Change Challenge
End date: 27 May 2022
In recent years, climate change has become more tangible and visible, with increased exposure in the media, a notable rise in activism and leading scientific research, such as the 2021 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report.
Digital storytelling is playing a defining role in shaping the climate change narrative.
XR Stories is funding creative SMEs, based in Yorkshire and the Humber, to develop projects using immersive storytelling to address key climate change topics.
Three grants of £25,000 are available. Successful companies will deliver proposals demonstrating how extended reality (XR) technology can provoke meaningful conversations about climate change. Proposals should be evidence-led and foregrounded in academic research.
Our R&D team will support successful businesses to deliver their projects by October 2022.
Key climate change topics include:
- Fossil fuels
- Farming and agriculture
- Deforestation
- Transport
- Industrialisation
- Consumerism
We also welcome proposals about other climate change topics.
Examples of XR projects addressing climate change:
Project outputs
All projects will be expected to produce, upon successful completion:
- An advanced prototype story experience which will be ready for user testing
- Evidence of the R&D process followed including user testing and feedback (e.g. through project progress videos, images and prototypes)
