Masterclass – Capturing 3D Models

Join XR Stories, the University of York Creativity Lab, and United by Design for a free 2.5 hour masterclass in the XR Stories immersive technology research and development lab.
The masterclass will provide an introduction to two different modes of three-dimensional (3D) scanning – photogrammetry and Gaussian Splatting. Participants will learn about when to use which technique and have the opportunity to try out both methods.
After a short introduction, the XR Stories team will demonstrate how to carry out scans. Working in pairs, participants will scan real-world objects and environments using lab cameras. They will then use both Gaussian Splatting and photogrammetry to produce 3D models of their scans. Participants are welcome to take away the 3D models that they produce during the masterclass.
The XR Stories team will provide all the kit and objects needed and will be on hand to share insights from their own experiences with both processes.
