An event for University of York researchers: Engaging with and influencing policy in the Creative Industries

An event for researchers at the University of York to discuss new research being undertaken as part of the TYPE Creative Industries Policy Research Group.
The event will take place in The Guildhall, York on Monday 19 May 2025 and includes a buffet lunch, networking, presentations and group discussion.
The event will provide a forum for University of York researchers, whose work aligns with the creative, cultural and heritage sectors, to discuss how their research might influence the region, and the University of York’s role within it, as a key informer of regional and national policy priorities. The event will identify opportunities for future and ongoing collaboration as a new policy research community, while reflecting the convergence of ideas, technologies and disciplines that fuels the UK’s Creative Industries.

12:30pm to 1:30pm: Lunch and networking
1:30pm to 2:30pm: Setting the scene
An introduction and update from Kate O’Connor, Senior Consultant in the Creative Industries, and Founder and Executive Chair of Animation UK. Kate will present new data on the Creative Industries in York and North Yorkshire with a view to influencing policy in the region.
An update from Iqra Choudhry, Policy Engagement Manager at the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre. Iqra will talk about the work of the Creative PEC and how they influence national policy.
2:30pm to 3:30pm: Short presentations from University of York academics
Short presentations from researchers from across the University whose work relates to the Creative Industries.
3:30pm to 4:30pm: Group discussion
Group discussion and planning for next steps.
About the TYPE Creative Industries Policy Research Group
Led by XR Stories, the TYPE Creative Industries Policy Research Group is undertaking research, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement to better understand the current scope of economic activity within the Creative, Cultural and Heritage sectors across the York and North Yorkshire region. The group aims to influence the development of our region’s creative economy, emphasising the important place that culture and creativity holds for York and North Yorkshire, and as part of UK-wide policy.
