Introduction to podcasting workshop (Settle)

This workshop is part of the Extending XR programme, funded by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority and is open to adult residents in York and North Yorkshire.

About this event

Podcasts are an ever-growing and popular way for sharing information or entertaining that can open up opportunities for storytelling and community building.

At this in-person introductory workshop you will gain foundational skills to create your own podcast from scratch, from initial ideation to final production.

At the start of the session, you’ll learn how to turn your creative concepts into a structured podcast through effective planning. This will be followed by a practical segment focusing on recording audio using widely available everyday devices.

You’ll then learn about audio editing and how to clean up your recordings using free, accessible software. By the end of the workshop you’ll have gained skills and confidence to plan and record your own audio content.

What you will learn

• Script development: How to map out ideas and structure an episode.
• Audio recording: How to capture high-quality audio using Audacity and everyday hardware, then exploring options for intermediate microphones and interfaces.
• Audio editing: Understanding the essentials of free editing software to clean up recordings.

Who is this for?

This workshop is ideal for creatives, technologists, students, and industry professionals interested in creating their own podcasts. No previous experience of creating audio content is necessary and the session is built to be a beginner-friendly introduction to the technology.
