Projection mapping workshop

2:00 pm - 7 Aug 2026

Patch York, The Bonding Warehouse, Terry Ave, York YO1 6FA

Turn non-traditional surfaces into dynamic digital canvases. Learn, collaborate, and create in this intensive afternoon workshop.

This in-person workshop is part of the Extending XR programme, funded by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority and is open to adult residents in York and North Yorkshire.

About this event

How can we use light and digital content to transform different surfaces, tell compelling stories, and reshape audience experiences?

Join us at PATCH York for an intensive, practical workshop designed to demystify the art and science of projection mapping. Grounded in a “learning while making” ethos, this session aims to bridge the gap between technical execution and creative storytelling.

Whether you are a digital artist, filmmaker, designer, or tech enthusiast, this workshop will give you the foundational tools to bring physical surfaces to life.

What you will learn

This is not a passive lecture. You will dive straight into the technology and work collaboratively to solve a real-world creative challenge. Over the course of the afternoon, you will:

  • Master the Technical Basics: Understand the hardware, software, and alignment techniques required to precisely project digital imagery onto physical objects.
  • Design Creative Content: Learn how to think about space, shape, and narrative when generating content specifically for non-traditional screens.
  • Respond to a Real-World Brief: Work in small teams to tackle a live creative prompt, mimicking industry workflows and real-world applications.
  • Showcase and Review: Present your team’s final creation to the group, sharing insights, troubleshooting methods, and creative feedback.

Who is this for?

This workshop is ideal for creatives, technologists, students, and industry professionals looking to expand their toolkit into immersive and experiential media. No advanced prior experience with projection mapping software is required, but a passion for digital storytelling and collaboration is a must!
