EDI Vision

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) vision is to help shape a creative technology sector where a wider range of people can access the opportunities that extended reality (XR) technologies and experiences can bring. A sector with more diverse voices will drive new innovations and open up more opportunities.

Across all XR Stories-led projects and programmes, we work to remove barriers to participation while enabling practitioners from different backgrounds to access opportunities, progress in their careers, and contribute meaningfully to the future of the sector. Our approach is grounded in curiosity and creativity: continually learning from experience, listening to diverse perspectives, and using these insights to improve how we design opportunities for participation and growth.

Our approach is guided by three commitments:

1. Care for the Person

We begin with respect, kindness and honesty.

We listen to lived experience with openness and humility, recognising that barriers are often created by structures rather than individuals alone. Our aim is to welcome people into our ecosystem, supporting confidence, agency and a genuine sense of belonging. We continually learn from our community, including those who are yet to access our work, and use this understanding to shape how decisions are made.

2. Care for the Practice

We take a responsible and realistic approach to change.

Our work aims to support entry into XR and progression and leadership within it. We examine our assumptions, processes and guidelines to ensure we do not unintentionally exclude. We prioritise clear and meaningful improvements over unnecessary complexity. We pair reflection with accountability: tracking progress, being transparent about what we learn, and adapting our ways of working so that access and participation can lead to real influence.

3. Care for Partnerships

We recognise that meaningful change happens through collaboration across the sector.

We listen to and learn from our partners, feeding their knowledge into our activities. In parallel, we share our own learnings of embedding EDI good practice in our working culture, approach and project design. We advocate and connect individuals and organisations to our partners across the ecosystem, helping to build a more equitable pipeline beyond our institution.
