Two new projects set to innovate in digital storytelling

Two new projects are now underway thanks to receiving funding as a part of our Young XR call. These projects are developing new ways to tell stories to young audiences using interactive and immersive technologies, and the innovative teams behind them are determined to make their mark on the vibrant digital creativity industry in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

The first of these projects is Joi Polloi’s Change Maker. Inspired by the story of Greta Thunberg, the Change Maker platform aims to inspire young people aged 11-16 to promote social and political change through education, advocacy, and inspiration. The platform will provide support from their peers and reach decision-makers around the country. The development of the platform will be informed by research from academics at the University of Huddersfield.

AI Fan Along is another project we are supporting through research and development funding. AI Fan Along focuses on developing concepts for a meta-story chat tool to allow users to engage with their favourite TV show characters through types of voice-assisted smart technology, such as Amazon Alexa or Google Home. In development at Joi Polloi, and informed by research from academics at the University of York, AI Fan Along allows children to enter a meta-story between TV episodes to engage with characters and storylines using voice and AI technology.

You can read more about these projects and the other ventures we’re funding on our projects page.
