R&D funding roundup – April 2024

A roundup of recent research and development funding opportunities for researchers, companies and creatives.

Innovate UK Innovation loans future economy: Round 14: Loans for UK registered micro, small and medium-sized enterprises with highly innovative, late-stage R&D projects with a clear route to commercialisation (closes 1 May). 

Film Hub North/BFI Network England short film funding: Funding for filmmaking teams based in the North of England who are working on fiction shorts in live action, animation and immersive/virtual reality (closes 9 May).

Women Tech EU: A two-year EU-funded project funding and supporting women leading deep tech startup companies from Europe (round one closes 20 May).

EPSRC Prosperity Partnerships round 6: Funding to support ambitious collaborative research programmes that are business-led, co-created and co-delivered by business and academic partners (closes 21 May). 

Future Leadership Fellows round 9: Funding to support ambitious R&D and innovation across the UKRI’s remit for early career researchers or innovators developing their own original and ambitious plans within a commercial setting (closes 18 June).

Knowledge Transfer Partnership funding round 2: Grants for businesses or not-for-profit organisations, research organisations and graduates to work on an innovation project (closes 26 June).

UK Games Fund (Content Grants): Funding to support the UK’s early-stage games development and digital interactive business and creative ecosystem (rolling fund – no deadline).

Creative Growth Finance Fund: Scale-up loans for UK businesses in the Creative Industries (rolling fund – no deadline).

Creative UK: Creative Enterprise Business Builder: Grants to support companies who work in moving image for storytelling, spanning film television, games, animation and immersive industries (rolling fund – no deadline).

EPSRC pre-announcement: Technologies to enable independence for people living with dementia: Grants for research and communities focused on developing tools and technologies to enable people to live more independently with dementia (opens 10 May).

Coming soon – XR Network+ ‘Embedding R&D’ and ‘Prototyping, Impact and Assessment’ grants round two. Funding for researchers at UK universities working in extended reality and virtual production (opens 1 May).

Coming soon – XRtists: Funding and support for UK artists and organisations to explore the creative potential of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality technologies.
