The XR Stories Internships scheme is open to applicants for the second year running. Applications open on Tuesday 6th April 2021 and close Sunday 16th May 2021 at 5pm.
This scheme is designed to offer SMEs who are based in the Yorkshire and Humber region the opportunity to engage with talented students and graduates from universities across the region who will undertake professional, project based internship projects. The projects can be up to 12 weeks long, and must be completed by September 2021.
Internships are paid work experience opportunities that have driven career development in young people over the last 20-30 years, and are now commonplace on an engaged student’s CV. They also offer employers the opportunity to create a talent pipeline for the future, building sustainable relationships and partnerships with young people that can develop over time, whilst driving their business forward.
Internships should be challenging and rewarding for the intern to undertake, whilst having XR immersive and interactive technologies at the heart of the project. Take a look at just some of the recent projects we have funded under our 2020 Internships scheme to give you an idea of the scope and the outcomes.
Ben Carlin, co-founder of Megaverse, an interactive studio based in Sheffield, hosted an intern through XR Stories’ 2020 Internship scheme. Ben says, “This scheme is vitally important for our industry. The XR sector is relatively new and as a small business it gave us a good insight into the skills and abilities students already have. It was great having an intern; we learned a lot from our experience and Olivia’s enthusiasm and desire to learn was infectious. I 100% recommend the XR Stories Internship scheme.”
An internship could be utilised to plug a resource gap for you at a peak time, to research a new element to a bigger project, or to deliver up to date skills and expertise that your business will benefit from in the future.
To be eligible for this scheme your business must be registered in the UK and be based in Yorkshire and the Humber. You will have fewer than 250 FTE (or equivalent) employees and a turnover of less than £50 million.
The funding is available to businesses in all screen industry sectors including film, TV, gaming, animation and other digital media agencies as well as businesses who are looking to include XR technologies as part of their business model in the future.
Internship projects funded in this round must be concluded by the end of September 2021.
